A Performance-salon about "happiness".
After launching performance salon "HappinessUnlimited» in Aarhus, Denmark international directors Elli Papakonstantinou and Annika B. Lewis present the Greek answer to the happiness issue in Athens.
Our date with happiness is at the Benaki Museum on October 9th, 2016 at 6.00 pm
According to recent research by UNESCO («The World Happiness Report") Danes are among the most happy people on the planet, while the Greeks are the most unhappy. What does the Danes so happy? And are the Greeks really unhappy?
In HappinessUnlimited two provocative directors- Elli Papakonstantinou, director and Artistic Director of ODC Ensemble / Βυρσοδεψείο (GR) and Annika B. Lewis, Artistic Director οf Kassandra Production (DK) - cooperate and challenge their audience to explore happiness as meaning, feeling, objective existence and ultimately as a narrative.
In the phase of a serious economic and spiritual crisis, the idea of happiness is still something to fight for in 21st century. Greece has been the cradle of the democratic idea and the Scandinavian countries have applied and realised some of the most advanced social models in the world.
How do Greek and Scandinavian people live their lives today and how do we reflect on the idea of happiness?
The project addresses the following issues:
What is happiness today?
Is happiness a reality or just a construction?
Can happiness be a commodity?
What is a performance salon;
These and many more questions open topic in multiple dimensions when the two directors invite scientists, artists and citizens to actively participate in a creative process: a performance salon.
This is not simply a performance, but it consists of osmosis of artists, scientists and people.
In a friendly environment they will have the opportunity to taste the chef's creations while listening to the interventions of our special guests: Alexander Mistriotis (artist / philosopher) Athanasios Alexandridis (psychoanalyst / writer) and artistic "interventions" of Annika Lewis, Helene Kvint , Rosa Prodromou, Jens Mønsted, Pantelis Makkas (visual artist), etc.
THE ARTISTIC IDEA
Citizens from both countries are invited to share and discuss opinions and stories in relation to happiness. “HappinessUnlimited” is an invention: a work-in-progress, performance and at the same time a meaningful intervention in the public space.
This creative process will end with a performance that will take place in Denmark in 2018 with the participation of Greek and Danish artists titled «Happiness Unltd". Open dialogue with citizens from both countries inspires, informs and influences our final performance. Audience participation and co-creation is important.
